Vesper Capital Management, headquartered in in Lasdale, Pennsylvania was created to enhance the lives of others by bringing to market innovative investment strategies to help individual and institutional investors better achieve their investment goals. The firm combines innovative research conducted at a major U.S. university with deep investment and entrepreneurial experience to deliver unique quantitative strategies.

Founded by West Virginia University Professor K. Victor Chow, Ph.D., CFA., industry veteran John Thompson and entrepreneur George Elias, Vesper draws upon over sixty years of collective quantitative research and investment management experience to develop active, customized indices and investment products designed to outperform the major market indexes while incurring equal or less volatility.

Dr. Chow’s research on behavioral biases and the often-studied short-term reversal effect forms the basis for the firm’s investment indices and products. John Thompson and George Elias’s extensive experience in distribution and business management transforms Dr. Chow’s research into the firm’s offerings.

Vesper was capitalized by individuals with extensive experience in the legal, accounting and distribution aspects of the investment business.


Dr. Victor Chow, CFA
  • Senior Investment Consultant
  • Dr. Chow is responsible for developing and implementing the firm’s proprietary algorithm.
  • Dr. Chow currently serves as Professor of Finance at West Virginia University. In addition, he also founded and currently directs the Center for Chinese Business and is Director of the Confucius Institute at West Virginia University. Previously, Dr. Chow served as a Senior Financial Economist on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and participated in various Chinese Government Leaders & State Corporation Executive Educational Programs for over 15 years.
  • Dr. Chow earned a B.S. degree in natural resources from the Chinese Cultural University, an M.A. and Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Alabama and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
  • According to Google Scholar, has officially received over 2000 citations and ranks #13 worldwide in the area of “Portfolio Management”.
John V. Thompson, Jr.

  • Mr. Thompson is responsible for shaping Vesper Capital Management’s global brand and marketing strategies for institutional and retail clients.
  • Mr. Thompson previously served for twenty one years as Senior Vice President at Emerald Advisers, where he was responsible for the oversight and implementation of institutional sales, marketing and client retention and was instrumental in growing the firm from $75 million to $4 billion in assets under management.
  • Prior to this, he served for seven years as Vice President-Portfolio Management/Marketing for Cashman Farrell and Associates. Mr. Thompson started his career as an account executive at Dean Witter Reynolds.
  • Mr. Thompson earned a B.A. degree in business administration from Gettysburg College and holds his Series 7, 63, and 65 licenses.
George A. Elias
  • Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer
  • George is responsible for managing the company’s daily operations and executing the firm’s business strategy.
  • His experience includes 18 years as CEO and Founder of Educational Impact Inc., a leading provider of online video for K-12 professional development and teacher preparation courses for higher education.
  • He has worked as a Managing Director at The Garrett Group, a privately owned land development conglomerate, and as Regional Vice President of Commercial Lending for Mellon Bank/Summit Bank. George has also been an angel investor and served on numerous private equity and corporate boards.
  • Mr. Elias graduated Summa Cum Laude from Susquehanna University with a dual Bachelor of Science degree in finance and economics.
Darrin M. Hoffman, CFP®
  • SVP Client Portfolio Management/Platform Development
  • Darrin represents Vesper to institutional clients, consultants, broker dealer clients and platforms. He develops and produces branded institutional quality performance reporting and marketing collateral. His extensive investment expertise helps clients understand performance drivers and develop portfolio construction opportunities. He also provides strategy and operational solutions from his vast experience in the investment business.
  • He has provided investment advice and consulting to individuals, corporations, endowments, and foundations. Prior to joining Vesper, Darrin was a Senior Institutional Investment Consultant covering large market retirement plans for Bank of America Merrill Lynch on a national scale. In this role, he helped evaluate investment managers for inclusion on the over $200 billion retirement platform. Prior to this, he held leadership positions with top tier firms in the broker dealer, trust, and RIA segments of the business.
  • Darrin has a BS in Commerce and Engineering from Drexel University. He is a Certified Financial Planner, and holds FINRA series 7, 9, 10 & 63 licenses.
